About Rep. Mike Steele
Sworn into office in 2017, Mike Steele represents the 12th Legislative District. It is the largest geographic district in the state. It includes all of Chelan County, all of Douglas County, part of Grant County and part of Okanogan County. His passion for economic vitality, sustainable job growth and career and technical education are the foundations of his legislative work.
Mike is a lifelong resident of the Lake Chelan Valley. He graduated from Manson High School and went on to receive degrees in Business Administration and Political Science from Pacific Lutheran University. He has long been devoted to public service. Upon graduation from college, Mike served the people of the Pacific Northwest in the White House Office of Political Affairs representing the Northwest Region under President George W. Bush.
After returning to his home state to work in the Republican House Caucus for Leadership during the 2006 legislative session and interim, Mike was hired as the Executive Director of the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce. He has led the business community of the Lake Chelan Valley as the Executive Director for the past ten years working to grow the economy and create job opportunities.
In addition to his work as the Executive Director for the Chamber, Mike is deeply committed to his community and Washington State. He first held elected office as a member of the Chelan City Council. He was the youngest President ever elected to the Lake Chelan Rotary Club. He is a trustee for the Association of Washington Business, a trustee for the North Central Washington Community Foundation and past chair of the Washington Chamber of Commerce Executives. He is also an active member of the Lake Chelan Community Hospital Foundation.
Mike lives in Chelan. In his free time, he enjoys downhill skiing, boating, spending time with his family and his English springer spaniel, Bentley, at his family's cabin in Lucerne.
