Rep. Mike Steele sponsors Eastmont High School student as House page

Eastmont High School student, Marie I. Brangwin, recently traveled to Olympia to serve as a page in the state House of Representatives. She was sponsored by 12th Legislative District Rep. Mike Steele.

“It was an honor to sponsor Marie as a House page. It's always good to see students arrive for work at the state Capitol. Marie was a big help to my office.  I hope she enjoyed her time here,” said Steele, R-Chelan. “It's not unusual for student pages to become lifelong civically engaged adults. Perhaps Marie will return to Olympia someday as a legislator or other elected official!”

In her spare time, Marie, an East Wenatchee resident, is a key club member, swim team captain, lifeguard, and varsity swimmer. The 16-year old is the daughter of John and Anne Brangwin.

As part of her page duties, Marie learned to navigate the many buildings on the Capitol campus while delivering messages and documents to legislators and staff. She also attended page school every day to understand the inner workings of the Legislature.

To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. Pages earn $35 per day while serving in the program. For more information about the House Page Program go to To learn more about the Gina Bull Memorial Legislative Page Scholarship program go to
